Artist Statement !!

Comics, a pulp medium, are relatively new in the grand scheme of things. While other art forms have deep histories, comics benefit from a recently developed, shared lexicon of images and narrative structure. My practice uses this visual language to create an elevated reality. The presentation and rendering of my work intentionally disrupts and subverts traditional cartooning language, breaking expected contexts of the medium. I use garish shapes and colors to distort reality, shaping it to fit the emotional and thematic needs of a page or panel. In capturing specific moments in time, I depict a reflection of the strange, layered reality I navigate—a bizarre, amorphous world that comics, with their hyperbolic visual language, can uniquely convey to the reader.
